IPRA has a Therapeutic Recreation Section (ITRS) that includes professionals in both clinical
and community-based settings.  ITRS also provides information about the seven four-year
colleges and universities in Illinois offering therapeutic recreation programs.  For more

(ILRTA)

National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
NCTRC was established in 1981 as the nationally recognized organization for the certification
of therapeutic recreation personnel.  Upon meeting the eligibility requirements and passing
the exam, an individual will be awarded the five-year Certified Therapeutic Recreation
Specialist (CTRS) certificate.  For additional information, contact National Council for

National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP)
NCCAP offers an activity professional certification. More information and an application form
