Illinois Activity Professionals Association (IAPA)
IAPA was organized in 1979, in order to unite activity professionals on a statewide basis.
IAPA holds an annual conference in the fall, publishes a quarterly newsletter called
Illinois Activities in Action, offers certification to activity professionals, sponsors several
awards, works with local activity associations, and represents its membership with state

Illinois Park and Recreation Association
(IPRA)
IPRA has a Therapeutic Recreation Section (ITRS) that includes professionals in both
clinical and community-based settings. ITRS also provides information about the seven
four-year colleges and universities in Illinois offering therapeutic recreation programs.

National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
NCTRC was established in 1981 as the nationally recognized organization for the
certification of therapeutic recreation personnel. Upon meeting the eligibility
requirements and passing the exam, an individual will be awarded the five-year Certified
Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certificate. For additional information, contact

National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP)
